French Quarter Talent Art Art & More Art

The artists in this city are beyond amazing. Unique, inspiration, creative, colorful, talent, talent and more talent. I noticed that the artists around Jackson Square did well in selling their art or had a nice audiance of people at least admiring their work. I think people love checking out the art plastered all over the fences and the artists are standing there to answer questions. Compared to the gorgeous galleries on the streets inside the Quarter that were empty of customers. Some hung their art outside the doors to lure you in but the stores had no customers inside.  I can speak for myself. I stood on the sidewalks in front of the galleries in awe of the art.  Wishing I had the money to buy a piece of art and the space in my house to hang a large piece of art. I was intimidated to go in. I would have felt bad going in and not buying. So I didn't go in. But someone must be buying these beautiful canvasas otherwise the artists would not be able to afford the  store front rents.

I particularly like these swamp or bayou paintings. I found them eerily beautiful.

Color color color. Love these!!

This artist had a really nice gallery. He had a series of  colorful Mermaid paintings inside that I would to taken some photos of. But I did not go inside. I loved her choice of colors and spirit she adds to his canvas. But guess what I forgot to do. Get the artists name!! But luckily I found her on the internet and her name is Barbara Yochum. Her studio is called Barbara Yocum;s 906 Dream Studio   906 Royal St. New Orleans. Her website is http://www.spiritpainter.com/. And when I started looking at her art I had to laugh, no wonder I liked her work so much. She paints not only these colorful ladies, but Goddess and Mermaids and more.

These paintings look like Voodoo Poppets. I thought they were very interesting.

How can you just pick one artist? I would want a painting from all of them.

Architecture in the French Quarter

What isn't there not to love about the different architecture in New Orleans. I know after Katrina many thought the city should simply disappear and not be rebuilt. That is an easy statement when you have never been here to see the most beautiful homes in America. One visit though and you will see why this City is so important and hangs on even when disaster strikes. I only have a sampling of homes. Drive down St. Charles (or better yet walk down St. Charles) or walk the Garden District and you will fall in love over and over again.

Not every home in the Quarter has been lovingly restored. It is still very precious regardless.

 This excerpt of The Velveteen Rabbit reminded me of this little home":  "Weeks passed, and the little Rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all his whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about. He didn't mind how he looked to other people, because the nursery magic had made him Real, and when you are Real shabbiness doesn't matter."

So I don't judge this sweet little home. I appreciated it for what it is right now. I wonder how many actually have stopped and taken a picture of it? Most of us take pictures of only the pretty houses. (Like all the others in this post.)

What is there not to love!!

It took everything I had not to go on dreaming about sitting on this porch drinking Mint Juleps watching the day go by.

It is fun to do black and white with one splash of color. Not original for sure but enjoyable all the same.

Can I say that these were really fun to do.

New Orleans Doll Company - Jamie Hayes Artist

This was a fantastic shop. I could have easily spent more time in here. Not only does this shop sell some very creative dolls, Jamie is an amazing artist. I did not think his prints were overly priced. I loved his choice of  colors in his work (and he uses a lot of color for a guy who is color blind). Back to Faux Tarot- Judgement

I thought I would bring back a little Faux Tarot today. Maybe a day away from the French Quarter. I still have a lot more pictures of the French Quarter so more pictures tomorrow.

 

Not every woman wants to be married and have children. It can be a huge dilema between how you feel and others opinions (pressure from mother perhaps?). Do I get married or do I choose being a single woman? The angel and the devil on your shoulder giving you their opinions.  This woman sits on the Church pew in hopes that the decision will come from a higher power. Ultimately it is your decision.
